Current measurement using photonic elements is based on the change of polarization of light in the presence of magnetic field.

Lumiker has developed a patent itself, where possible changes in the polarization that can enter the intermediate fiber that is located from the interrogator to the sensors are canceled, and therefore can be used for remote current measurement.

Properties of Faraday Technology:

The use of current sensors using this technology, has the following characteristics:

  • They are passive systems, lack of feed elements.
  • Allow the current sensors to be placed anywhere on the grid, both near the interrogator and remotely (several tens of kilometers).
  • Not affected by saturation of conventional magnetic elements.
  • Allows reading DC.
  • Does not require insulation elements based on oil.
  • There have no problems opening the secondaries of the current transformers. There are no dangers of explosion or surges
